Institution Profile
 

Tongji University, as one of the oldest modern universities in China, was established in 1907 by the German government together with German physicians in Shanghai.

The university is active in promoting cooperation and exchanges with other countries. It has established links with Australia, Austria, Canada, France, Germany, Japan, Switzerland, UK and USA in the fields of education, science, technology and economics. A number of international joint programs have been established between the university and its counterparts in other countries in recent years.

Tongji University is a comprehensive university located in Shanghai, with seven disciplines in engineering, science, medicine, management, arts, law and economics with strength in architecture, civil engineering and oceanography.

The university has developed close links with industry, which provides its students with opportunities of obtaining first-hand information through interaction with the society.

Semester workload: 12 – 20 modular credits vary from faculties to faculties.

Accommodation
Housing Options

There are four departments in the Student Accommodation Centre. They are Facilities Department, Postgraduate Students Department, Undergraduate Students Department and Administration Department. There are 211 staff in the Centre responsible for accommodation arrangement, security, maintenance, repairs, cleaning and laundry of the student accommodation located in different campuses of the university which accommodate over 15,000 students. Each building has a student warden who helps students with problems that have occurred in their daily life.

The rooms are equipped with air-conditioner, fridge, desks, closets, bathroom (with 24h warm-water shower), etc.

 
Visa & Insurance
Consular/Visa Regulations

A student visa is required (F visa of 180 days for 1 semester exchange with no physical examination required and X visa for 1 year exchange)

Apply at the Visa Service Center (22 Malacca Street) with the admission notice and visa application form (JW202) issued by Xiamen University.

Health/Medical Insurance

International Students are required to purchase comprehensive insurance which will cost 300 RMB/semester or 600RMB/year.
