Academic Life

Studying in People's Republic of China

Since the implementation of Deng Xiaoping’s “Four Modernizations”, China has made significant achievements in higher education, encompassing all branches of learning - degree and non-degree, scientific, technical and vocational. Engineering and science are very popular, and other fields, such as international relations, political science, medicine, economics, literature and law have grown from strength to strength in recent years.

The classes in Chinese universities are known for their intellectual rigour and academic discipline.

Testimonial from students

“The friendship forged during the four months was something that everyone would always remember for the rest of their lives. This will probably be one of the rare occasions that I can make so many friends from every part of the globe.

While studying is important, the real worth of the exchange is networking and experiencing the culture of the country. China is a very exciting country and it will continue to be for many years to come.”

- Yeo Zhiwei, School of Business -
SEP at Peking University

“SEP gave me a chance to venture into the diverse cultures of China, not only by just reading poems from ancient poet, or documentary programmes showing in the television, but experiencing them myself. Although it is just a short term programme, but the impact of it is life-long. I have become more mature and I am able to see things in different prospective now..

I believe the experiences I gained from SEP will be my precious memories for the rest of my life.”

- Chua Zhi Peng, Faculty of Science -
SEP at Fudan University
