Visa & Insurance
Consular/Visa Regulations

The Canadian immigration law allows students of partner institutions who are taking part in an exchange program for less than six months (one semester) to come to Canada without a study permit. Students must however apply to get a temporary resident visa. However, a temporary resident visa will not grant you the right to work on campus.

Health/Medical Insurance

Health insurance is mandatory for all international exchange students. Students are covered by the University Health Insurance Plan (UHIP). Secondary health insurance plans (YFS, Atkinson’s Association Benefits and the Graduate Students’ Health plan) are also automatically charged to students. Students with proof of similar coverage may apply to opt out of the secondary plan. Generally the secondary plan can cover dental and non emergency medical care. Students should review the information on each plan carefully.

Please refer to the Other Links Section for the relevant links to the university’s insurance policies.
