Accommodation
Housing Options

On-campus accommodation:

The University of Ottawa offers a limited number of residence spaces. These spots are reserved for students of partner institutions. If you plan to stay for the entire Academic Year (two semesters), your chances of obtaining a room in a university residence will therefore be limited. If you are assigned a room in a university residence, you will receive further details in the information kit.

Please take note that a room in a University residence costs approximately Can$700.00 per month while the price for off-campus housing varies from Can$450.00 to Can$750.00 per month.

Off-campus accommodation:

For those looking for off-campus accommodation, a special University service helps find off-campus housing. Students will be pleased to know that there are a variety of housing options within Ottawa and its surrounding neighbourhoods.

Please refer to the Other Links section for the relevant links to university accommodation.

Visa & Insurance
Consular/Visa Regulations

The Canadian immigration law allows students of partner institutions who are taking part in an exchange program for less than six months (one semester) to come to Canada without a study permit. Students must however apply to get a temporary resident visa. However, a temporary resident visa will not grant you the right to work on campus.

Health/Medical Insurance

All international exchange students are required to subscribe to the University Health Insurance Plan (UHIP). However, students who subscribe to a complementary health insurance policy prior to leaving their country of origin may be exempted from paying the UHIP fees.

The premiums are: Can$252 for four months; Can$504 for eight months and Can$756 for 12 months.
