The University of Queensland (UQ) is one of Australia’s premier learning and research institutions. It is the largest and oldest university in Queensland and has produced generations of graduates who have gone on to become leaders in all areas of society and industry.

Curriculum Structure |
|
Exchange students are required to enroll in a full academic work load of 8 units per semester (equivalent to 4 courses). Generally a 2-unit course is about 3 contact hours per week.
Note: UQ has four main campuses but most exchange students study at either the St Lucia or Gatton campus. Students should try not to schedule courses taught at two different campuses on the same day.

Restrictions for Exchange Students |
|
Courses in clinical Health Science areas such as Medicine, Dentistry, Physiotherapy, Veterinary Science, etc. are not open to exchange students.

Housing Options |
|
On-campus accommodation:
There are 10 halls of residential. Space is limited and students interested in staying on-campus should apply early. The Residential colleges at St Lucia Campus that are within easy walking distance of all teaching and research facilities and they are usually very competitive. Gatton Campus has three Halls of Residence and 30 Gatton Houses, many of which are located on-campus. No on-campus accommodation is available at Ipswich campus. Average fees is about AUD$1385 per month, excluding meals.
Off-campus accommodation:
Rental accommodation should only be arranged once you have arrived in Queensland so as to give you the opportunity to inspect properties and meet house-mates (for shared houses and units). This is because once you sign a tenancy agreement it is very difficult to get out of it. Average fees is about AUD$610 per month, excluding meals and rental bond of about AUD$400.

Consular/Visa Regulations |
|
Exchange students must enter Australia with a sub-class 575 non-award student visa and not a tourist visa. Before they can for a visa students will need a letter of offer from the University and a Certificate of Enrolment (CoE).

Health/Medical Insurance |
|
All international students studying in Australia are required to purchase an approved Overseas Student Health Cover (OSHC) policy. OSHC is a condition of the Overseas Student Visa issued by the Australian Immigration authorities. The cost is approximately AUD$245 for 7 months and AUD$490 for 14 months. OSHC can be purchased through the university.
