Accommodation
Housing Options

On-campus accommodation:

There are six residential halls within Monash. Fees are about AUD$450-$900 per month depending on the hall type. All applicants must pay $40 application fee and a non-refundable Building and Amenities Fee. Electricity, telephone calls and broadband usage are charged according to usage. Meals are not included.

Application must be made through Monash Abroad and not directly to Monash Residential Services.

Off-campus accommodation:

Students can obtain advice and assistance from Monash Residential Services on other accommodation options. It is advisable to arrive in Melbourne 1-2 weeks before orientation starts and be prepared to travel quite long distances to get to the Clayton campus. This is because there is less accommodation available around Clayton than in other parts of Melbourne.

Please refer to the Other Links section for the relevant links to university accommodation.

Visa & Insurance
Consular/Visa Regulations

Exchange students must enter Australia with a sub-class 575 non-award student visa and not a tourist visa. Before they can for a visa students will need a letter of offer from the University and a Certificate of Enrolment (CoE).

Health/Medical Insurance

All international students studying in Australia are required to purchase an approved Overseas Student Health Cover (OSHC) policy. OSHC is a condition of the Overseas Student Visa issued by the Australian Immigration authorities.

This health insurance policy is provided by a private insurance company and arranged by Monash. The policy does not cover the full cost of most medical and pharmaceutical services but it generally covers the full cost of hospital treatment in a public hospital. It does not cover dental or ophthalmology costs. More information will be provided in the offer letter. The cost is approximately AUD$210 for 6 months and AUD$385 for 12 months.

Please refer to the Other Links Section for the relevant links to the university’s insurance policies.
