Meet Your PALs

Introducing the faces behind the flood of emails and behind every Peer Advising event!

Erlinna is a fourth-year student from the School of Design and Environment. She braved to experience exchange to New Zealand’s University of Otago during the fall of 2012. It has been a truly enriching and eye-opening exchange experience - meeting friendly Kiwis and other exchange students from all around the world in Otago and spending the semester travelling and doing all kinds of crazy activities like Bungy Jumping from the birthplace of Bungy and of course, basking in New Zealand’s unspoiled natural beauty. Returning back home to Singapore has made her realize that quality of hospitality plays a key role in the experience that a student receives from an exchange. Thus, she decided to become a PAL! With all her other friendly PALs, they’ll be sure to give you an awesome experience while in Singapore for your exchange!

Darren is a third-year Political Science major from the Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences. His desire to see the world prompted him to sign up for the University-wide Student Exchange Programme, and he has not regretted it since! His time at the Georgia Institute of Technology in the United States proved to be immensely heart-stopping as he had the opportunity to experience the true-blue American football games, icy-cold whitewater rafting, as well as take in the picturesque sights of Niagara Falls! Coming back home, he aspires to make the NUS experience even more amazing and memorable for all his incoming exchange friends, just the way he had it abroad!

Zara is a final year Industrial Design major, who spent her spring 2012 semester in the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign, just a 2 hour bus ride from the great city of Chicago! Interacting with the local, as well as fellow exchange students abroad, made her realize the importance of a helping hand while you are in a new environment. She hopes to offer such a helping hand to both incoming and outgoing exchange students. Travelling around the states once semester was over also sparked her wanderlust and all she wants to do now is pack a bag and go somewhere new and exciting!

Choon Wee, also known as Chewy, is a fourth year student majoring in the Industrial and System Engineering. He was lucky enough to embark on his student exchange programme at the University of Pennsylvania. His exchange semester was filled with exciting activities and he enjoyed his 5 months in the States. His study abroad experience has changed his life and enriched it so much that he wants others to have the same experience. This goal to help others was the impetus behind him joining the Peer Advising Programme.

Aravindh is a fourth year student majoring in Electrical Engineering. Powered by the thirst to travel to the earth’s extremes and to experience culture shock at its zenith, he found himself doing an exchange semester in Finland during peak winter. Falling in love with  Europe’s art and charm, and having some of his old perspectives jolted out, he has returned back to his tropical roots only to find himself with an urge to travel again. Being an international student in Singapore himself and with a love for his tiny new home increasing every day, the Peer Advising Programme has given him the ideal gateway to make exchange in Singapore for his friends, a semester to truly remember. After all, what happens on exchange stays on exchange, right!

Fei is a fourth-year undergraduate from the NUS Business School. His love for the great outdoors led him to the shores of Hawaii. He called the University of Hawaii at Manoa his home during his six months there.

Hawaii gave him unforgettable memories. He surfed. He hiked. He dived into the ocean and from the sky. However, it was the locals’ hospitality that left the deepest impression on him. Aloha (peace) and Ohana (family) are words that the people of the Hawaiian Islands live by.

Now back in Singapore, Fei is determined to extend this spirit of generosity and compassion to all incoming and outgoing exchange students!
