THE UNIVERSITY OF NOTTINGHAM
United Kingdom
Institution Profile

Besides its academic and teaching excellence, the University of Nottingham has a very diverse and international community, drawing students from over 130 countries amongst its 28,000 student population. Nottingham is a world-renowned centre for excellence. The university encourages its students to follow their global activities and think internationally.

Nottingham is a very cosmopolitan city and is one of the UK 's best retail centers, particularly in fashion. Besides large shopping areas, it also offers numerous entertainment possibilities, such as the recently built ‘Cornerhouse' – a huge entertainment complex with cinemas, clubs and restaurants. It also has some interesting historic buildings, and the beautiful scenery of Nottinghamshire is not to be missed.

Academics

Course information:

Academic calendar:

  • NUS semester one = Nottingham Autumn Semester (28th September to 21st January)
  • NUS semester two = Nottingham Spring Semester (24th January to 3rd June)
  • Most courses have exams at the end of each semester. Exam schedules are made clear to students when lectures start.
  • Students who opt for SEP in the Autumn semester should note that exams usually take place in January. Whilst some schools may arrange for you to take your exams back in NUS or arrange alternative assessments, Science and Engineering may not do so. FOE and FOS students must therefore stay in Nottingham till January (or till their last exam).

Housing Options
Accommodation is guaranteed for all international students at the university provided that the application is received by the university's accommodation office before the given deadline. The university offers both catered and self-catered rooms, single and shared rooms. Students opting for SEP in the Autumn semester should note that their housing contracts usually end in late January, even if they were to return to Singapore in December. The university does not guarantee accommodation during the vacation period, however arrangements can be made. For more information please visit the university's accommodation website.

Additional Information
Students going to Nottingham on SEP may apply for the DUO-Singapore Exchange Fellowship Award. Selected students will be awarded a maximum of 4,000 Euros for one semester, which should cover their airfare, accommodation and living expenses. Applications open around March each year and close in April/May for the following academic year's SEP.
