Institution Profile

The University of Edinburgh, situated in the capital of Scotland, is one of the UK 's most prestigious universities. With over 20,000 students of over 120 nationalities, the student community in Edinburgh is a very diverse and cosmopolitan one. Founded over four centuries ago, its quality of teaching and research is considered one of the leaders worldwide.

Edinburgh is known for its beauty, history and for the Arts - every year it hosts the world's largest Arts Festival – The Edinburgh Festival. With its historic sites very well preserved, Edinburgh is said to “wear its history on its sleeve”. Besides the historic parts of the city, Edinburgh also has a contrasting new town area, making it a very interesting and fulfilling town to visit. Its parklands and gardens give visitors a quiet spot to enjoy the Edinburgh atmosphere and the exciting new town life gives young people every opportunity for a very entertaining lifestyle.

  • Full-year SEP only. (NEW! They are allowing 1 semester exchange only from AY06/07. Full year or Semester 2 only exchanges are still preferred, due to housing issues.)

Academic calendar:

  • NUS semester one = Edinburgh Autumn Semester (21st September to 18th December)
  • NUS semester two = Edinburgh Spring Semester (10th January to 27th May)
 
Housing Options

Visiting Undergraduate and Postgraduates will be guaranteed accommodation in the University halls of residence provided their application reaches the university accommodation office before the given deadline. Usually the types of accommodation offered by the university are catered halls of residence of self-catered flats which are owned by the university. Additional Information
Students going to Edinburgh on SEP may apply for the DUO-Singapore Exchange Fellowship Award. Selected students will be awarded a maximum of 4,000 Euros for one semester, which should cover their airfare, accommodation and living expenses. Applications open around March each year and close in April/May for the following academic year's SEP.
