Institution Profile

The University of Birmingham, situated in the heart of the UK Midlands, is one of the UK 's foremost research-led universities. With one of the broadest ranges of courses in the UK, it has managed to create a very diverse and dynamic community, playing host to international students from all over the world and constantly attracting talent from overseas.

Thanks to its location, Birmingham is a business and industry-oriented city. Being the UK 's largest manufacturing centre, it has close to 20,000 companies, some of which are major players in the UK 's economy. Birmingham also boasts one of the largest shopping centers in the UK. You can also entertain yourself with the numerous theatres, cinemas, cafes, restaurants and art galleries in town.

  • NUS semester one = Birmingham Autumn Term (27th September to 10th December)
  • NUS semester two = Birmingham Spring Term (10th January to 24th March)
    Birmingham Summer Term (25th April to 17th June)
 
Housing Options

Accommodation is guaranteed for all international students at the university provided the application is received by the university's accommodation office before the given deadline. The types of accommodation offered are:

  • Halls of Residence – Single study bedroom; breakfast and evening meals are catered for.
  • Self-catered flats – Furnished flats where a few students share common bathroom and kitchen.

Additional Information
Students going to Birmingham on SEP may apply for the DUO-Singapore Exchange Fellowship Award. Selected students will be awarded a maximum of 4,000 Euros for one semester, which should cover their airfare, accommodation and living expenses. Applications open around March each year and close in April/May for the following academic year's SEP.
