Riga Technical University is one of the oldest universities in Eastern Europe. Founded in 1862, following similar technical institutions in Switzerland and Germany, RTU has been an international institution from the very beginning.

It received the current name in 1990. During the last decade RTU has reformed its education program to meet requirements set by the Europe Union (EU). RTU degrees are recognized in all European countries, USA and Canada.

Latvia

In 1998 Latvia won an official right to join the EU education program Socrates. For the academic year 2003/2004 RTU has signed 48 bilateral agreements with partner institutions in 12 European countries within the Socrates/Erasmus program.

Language of Instruction

Latvian language courses are available for foreign students.
