University Homepage: http://www.uni-tuebingen.de/

The University of Tübingen , also known as the Eberhard Karls Universität Tübingen, was founded by Eberhard, the duke of Wüttemberg at the end of the 15 th century. The University is known to have a character of awareness for tradition combined with a cosmopolitan atmosphere. In the 19 th century, the University experienced an academic upswing along with its professors becoming known beyond the borders of Baden-Wüttemberg. In addition to that, it is the first University in Germany to fund a Faculty of Natural Sciences. With a student population of 26000, Tübingen is known to be the city with the highest student density

Tübingen – A contrast of Old and New

Founded in 16 th century, the town of Tübingen is situated in the federal state of Baden-Wüttemberg, a state known for its attraction in cultural diversity and hard-working people. With the founding of the University of Tübingen , the city had to build a new university quarters to accommodate the students and the university's growing specializations and scientific research. It was built just outside the town's old city with a further expansion after World War II.

Many claim Tübingen to be a city of its own, one of a kind. Some describe it as a romantic place due to the number of poets who are identified with Tübingen. Some describe it to be an intellectual city, not only based on the high student population, but also based on the fact that a piece of European history was written there (Protestant seminary). Despite these characterizations, Tübingen is still a city of contradictions; visitors can enjoy the new small town metropolis and the youthful old town; A true eye-opening experience.
