The University of Mannheim has become one of Europe 's Leading Schools in Economics and Social Sciences. It received its University status in 1967, when its Business School (founded in 1907 by the city of Mannheim ) was reopened after the 2 nd World War. The University is the first German Business School to be accredited by the Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business, which internationally recognizes that the Mannheim Business programs meet the highest international academic quality standards.

Despite the University's young age, it has a long tradition to look back on and be proud of. Today it is one of Germany 's medium-large sized universities with approximately 12000 students. Of these, 10% make up the international student population. The University is situated in the largest baroque castle in Europe which was built by Electoral Prince Karl Theodor in the town centre in the early 18 th century. It is a very dignified and extraordinary working place and all classes are held there.

Mannheim – A Region of many Charms

Mannheim 's culture and history revolves very much around its Castle which dates back to the 18 th century. Mannheim is situated in the federal state of Baden-Wüttemberg, a state known for its attraction in variety and hard working people. The famous German Black Forest is situated in Baden-Wüttemberg, a beautiful piece of natures which would be a shame to miss. Mannheim is the second largest town in Baden-Wüttemberg.

Mannheim will be celebrating its 400 year anniversary in the year 2007, which Mannheim is embracing by big upgrading projects and public events. It will be an exciting event and a time to witness the locals celebrate their heritage.

Besides the jubilee celebrations, there many festivals which visitors are welcome to join is. Such festivals include the wine festivals and international arts festivals; and to take a break from al the celebrations, visitors can enjoy the many cultural attractions such as the State Art Gallery , the International Back Academy and the Stuttgart Ballet Company. There is something for everyone.

Language of Instruction

With the exception of all foreign language courses, lectures at the University of Mannheim are held in German. The University offers intensive German courses before and during term time.

Housing Options
The University of Mannheim has its own residential housing, housing over 2300 students. However places are limited. An alternative to accommodation in Halls of Residence is rented accommodation in the town which is in very close proximity to the University. Applications must be received in time to ensure a place in the Halls of Residence.
