UNIVERSITY OF HOHENHEIM
Germany
Institution Profile

University Homepage: http://www.uni-hohenheim.de/i3ve/index.htm

The University of Hohenheim is the oldest - and most beautiful - university in Stuttgart. In a unique campus environment, the university is located in a 200 year old castle surrounded by gardens and experimental fields. Hohenheim is one of the few campus universities in Germany, so all important university buildings are easily accessible by foot. From a tradition of natural and agricultural sciences, the university has evolved to include more modern subjects like economics and social sciences.

Hohenheim

Located south of Stuttgart, the capital of Baden-Württemberg, Hohenheim is situated on the Filder Plateau above the stream of Körsch. Primary attractions in this area include the Botanic Gardens and the Palace (which currently houses part of the university), such architecture being remnants of a time when the area was still a seat of a noble family during medieval times.

Language of Instruction

As most courses are conducted in German, students should have a medium knowledge of the language. Courses in English are primarily for Masters programmes as well as some agricultural undergraduate courses. German language courses are available to students through the university’s Language Centre.

Housing Options

Students have the option of staying in the student residences. If such accommodation is not available, the University’s Office of International Affairs can help you to find accommodation in private housing.

Residence rooms are furnished with the basic furniture. Students usually share the kitchen and bath with other students. Internet access is available in the residences as well. Washing machines are available in the residences, and students can buy wash cards from the caretaker. Extra payment may be required if students prefer a private telephone extension.
