Being one of the oldest universities in Germany and Europe, the University of Heidelberg has become a centre for international scientific excellence which has continuously attracted both students and staff from all over the world. The high levels of external non-government funding received by the University in the areas of Natural and Life Sciences should suffice to show the university's high success rates in its research. The university has received numerous scientific and academic awards and has produced 8 Nobel Prize winners.

Heidelberg – A City of Many Beautiful Things

Heidelberg is a city rich in every aspect, whether it be nature, history, culture or spirit; Heidelberg is the combination of all these things. This town has inspired many artists; painters, musicians etc. The city has the Renaissance feeling still inside it, with its castle's and ruins from that period still remaining. Student life has developed from the city's early stages and they too can enjoy all the arts and the rich culture that the town has to offer. Easily reachable, the city is not far from the main airport Frankfurt, Heidelberg is in one of Germany 's beautiful regions of Baden-Württemberg where many other beautiful cities and other tourist attractions like the famous black forest can be found.

Language of Instruction

With the exception of all foreign language courses, lectures at the University of Heidelberg are held in German. The University offers intensive German courses before and during term time.

Housing Options
The University of Heidelberg does not have its own Halls of Residence; however the University can help students get accommodated by putting them in touch with local agents and landlords. Students can rent accommodation off campus; types of accommodation available can range from an individual room to 2-3 room apartments. Costs can range from €200 - €300 per month depending on the type of accommodation requested.
