The University of Freiburg was founded in 1457 and today is one of Germany 's oldest Universities. Its student population of 20000 students is a very dynamic one having an international student population of 17%. The university campus stretches over the whole town, the library being in the centre of the town, the science faculties in the north of the town and other faculties spread across the whole town. The university plays a very large part of the town; it employs a vast number of researchers in the region which have made Freiburg an internationally significant research centre.

Freiburg – A Small City with a Big Flair

Freiburg is situated on the western slopes of the Black Forest and is especially well-known for its mild-climate; Freiburg 's climate is said to be the warmest in the region. The surrounding areas can offer many picturesque moments and enjoyable days in nature. Freiburg lies at the crossroads of the two neighboring countries, Switzerland and France , making it a very interesting atmosphere. The city has been given many names to characterize its environment; however the most outstanding one would be “The City of forests, wine and gothic architecture”. It truly reflects the different sides of the small city with a big flair.

Language of Instruction

With the exception of all foreign language courses, lectures at the University of Freiburg are held in German. The University offers intensive German courses before and during term time.

The cost of living is estimated to be around €720 per month which includes accommodation, food, books and entertainment.

 

 
Housing Options
The University of Freiburg does not have its own Halls of Residence; however the International Office of the University of Freiburg will help students get accommodated by aiding in the liaising between landlords and students. In order to secure a place, applications must be received before the deadline specified by the University. Students can also opt to rent accommodation off campus; types of accommodation available can range from an individual room to 2-3 room apartments. Cost of renting can range from €160 - €260 per month
