Since its founding in 1894 to meet the needs of France’s emerging electric industry, Supélec has trained nearly 25,000 French and foreign engineers. It is today the Grande École for engineers in the fields of information sciences and energy, awarding 440 engineering degrees annually.
Supélec was established in Paris. A first extension was created in Rennes, Brittany, in 1972. In 1975 its headquarters were relocated on the Gif-sur-Yvette campus, fifteen miles south of Paris, and a further extension was built in Metz, Lorraine, in 1985. Ever since, Supélec has functioned as a three-campus, single Engineering Institution. Daily contact is maintained through the national network for education and research, RENATER and through the Internet.
Each campus is located in an environment of high-level technology. Metz 2000 and Rennes Atalante are situated in the heart of the industrial parks of Île-de-Science, where research centers, universities and high-tech businesses are grouped together.
Language of Instruction: French
With the exception of language courses and certain electives taught in English, the majority of courses are done in the French language.
(NUS Centre for Language Studies offers courses in French language to prepare students going to France on student exchange.)
