Institution Profile

As Denmark 's second largest city, Aarhus is the commercial and cultural centre of Jutland. Also known as the university city, Aarhus is where many educational institutions are located, with the vibrancy of youth ensuring a lively city with many cultural attractions.

The University of Aarhus (UA) is the second largest and second oldest university in Denmark. UA believes in providing a friendly and attractive environment for students so as to inculcate a sense of well being in the university. Courses in the first two years are taught in Danish. English courses are available in higher years.


Academics

Eligible Areas of Study: Faculty of Science (FOS), Faculty of Arts and Social Science (FASS) and Faculty of Law (LAW).

Courses in English:

  • Website for courses taught in English can be found at http://www.au.dk/en/is/academic/courses.htm
  • Courses taught in English usually offered only at higher levels (B and C courses).
  • Introductory courses are part of the Part One-study programme and they are taught in Danish only. A-courses are supplements to the introductory courses of Part One, intended for Bachelor Year studies or Master's studies. A-courses are taught in Danish unless other arrangements are made. B-courses and C-courses are upper-level courses offered on a regular basis or ad hoc within different subjects, especially intended for Bachelor Year studies or Master's studies. These are taught in English when necessary.
  • Students can take up to 30 ECTS each semester in UA. On average, each student takes four courses.
  • Most courses have exams at the end of each semester. Exam schedules are made clear to students when lectures start.

Academic calendar:

  • NUS semester one = UA autumn semester (August to January)
  • NUS semester two = UA spring semester ( February to June)

Housing Options
Housing is usually guaranteed if the International Secretariat receives your accommodation form before the deadline. The deadlines can be found at http://www.au.dk/en/is/practical/accommodation Different deadlines are set for different arrival times.
 
Additional Information
Students going to DTU for SEP may apply for the DUO-Denmark Fellowship Award. However, this is not open for academic year 2005/06.
