Brussels – Heart of Europe
Brussels , home to the EU and the capital of Belgium is a culturally very rich town. This can be reflected by the variety of languages in the country alone. The main language would be the local dialect Flemish; however locals speak Dutch, French and German as well. This variety can be seen in many areas of the town; Variety across architecture and traditions, make Brussels a very exciting and interesting place to see. The Heart of Brussels, the Grand Place is the historic city square where one can find the impressive gothic beauties of the town, considered to be one of the most beautiful squares in Europe.
Belgium , despite its vast varieties in people and cultures does have its own little gems and traditions too. The ‘Flower Carpet in August' and the display of the ‘Mini Europe' to name a few. Not to forget of course the famous Belgian Chocolate.
Language of Instruction
With the exception of all foreign language courses, lectures at VUB are held in Dutch. An increasing number of courses are being offered in English and French. The University offers intensive Dutch courses before and during term time.
