COLLEGE OF WILLIAM AND MARY
United States of America |
|
| Institution Profile |
 |
Chartered in 1693 by King William III and Queen Mary II, the College of William and Mary is the second-oldest university and one of the nation’s premier state-assisted liberal arts universities. Devotion to students and strong commitment to teaching have created William and Mary, now ranked by U.S. News as the best small public university in the country. In recognition, the media have included William and Mary among the nation's prestigious "Public Ivys," and ranked it first among state institutions in terms of commitment to teaching. Located in the center of historic Williamsburg, Virginia, the beautiful campus is surrounded by many old-style buildings, taverns and shops. The college has an enrollment of 7700, of whom approximately 5700 are undergraduates and 2000 are graduate or professional students. Students come from all 50 states as well as 60 foreign countries. At William and Mary, students join over 350 interest groups plus 14 national social fraternities and 13 sororities. One of the college’s academic strengths for undergraduates would be the General Arts and sciences. The faculty to student ratio stands at 1:11.
The college also prides itself being one of the United States’ premier public universities and also boasts close faculty-student relationships. There is also a strong emphasis on undergraduate research as well as civic commitment of the student body and community service.
