On campus:
Exchange students attending the University of Texas at Austin usually choose from three types of housing: co-operative houses (co-ops), dormitories, and apartments. Dormitories and co-ops are located within walking distance of the UT campus and offer double (shared) and some single (private) rooms for both men and women students. Often dorms and co-ops serve meals (Goodall Wooten dormitory does not) and include the cost of a meal plan in their prices. Most offer amenities such as swimming pools, exercise rooms, computer labs, and planned social activities. Many exchange students enjoy dorms and co-ops because group living provides a community of university students, with opportunities to make friends and participate in shared activities.

Health insurance:

Health insurance is mandatory for all international students at The University of Texas at Austin. Reciprocal exchange students are required to maintain health insurance for the period stated on the DS-2019 form. Enrollment in the mandatory UT Health Insurance Plan is automatic at the time of registration, and the cost of the insurance policy will be included in your tuition and fee bill (fall coverage on the fall semester bill; spring and summer coverage on the spring semester bill). Individual student coverage will cost approximately $1300 per year.

In some cases, students who possess a health insurance policy that meets or exceeds UT requirements can present that policy in lieu of the mandatory UT policy. To recieve a waiver, you will be required to certify that the health insurance you possess meets or exceeds each and all of the following requirements: 1) Major medical coverage: $50,000 per accident or illness, 2) Repatriation of remains: $7,500, 3) Medical evacuation: $10,000, and 4) Maximum deductible per year $500.
