| Housing Options |
 |
|
On-Campus Housing
The OIP, cannot guarantee on-campus housing for exchange students. Housing is limited and therefore exchange students should apply immediately after they are informed of their admission to the University of Michigan. Non-degree students do not have a choice of residence hall, but will be placed in a facility selected by the U-M Housing Office. Please visit http://www.housing.umich.edu
Off-Campus Housing
Exchange students may also choose to live off-campus. Suitable off-campus accommodations are available and fairly easy to find. Refer to the U-M Housing Office web pages for current Off-Campus Housing listings, locations, costs, and other helpful information. Exchange students typically arrive several days before orientation to search for housing and sign a lease.
Please visit http://www.offcampus.housing.umich.edu for further information.

Useful Links:
Visa Information:
International students who are accepted to a University of Michigan exchange programme must obtain an F-1 visa. Once students are admitted and have received their certificate of eligibility (I-20), they need to contact the nearest U.S. consulate in order to find information on applying for a visa. Students must complete forms, submit documents (sometimes more than once), pay a fee (U.S $100), and schedule an interview with a consulate official. Students should apply immediately for a passport, if they do not already have one. For further information, please visit http://www.lsa.umich.edu/oip/exhange-student-visa.htm
Health Insurance:
All international students enrolling at Michigan, including OIP exchange students, are required to carry adequate health (sickness and accident) insurance. Insurance coverage greatly reduces the costs of professional medical care, which otherwise can be quite expensive.
The University offers a comprehensive, fairly inexpensive plan - the International Student/Scholar Health Insurance Plan - for which students must sign up at the International Center upon arrival in Ann Arbor or during International Student Orientation.
