Housing Options

On-Campus housing:
To experience university life fully, nothing equals living on campus where you can enjoy convenience and a sense of community. UCLA’s on-campus housing is situated at the heart of university life and is just a short walk away from classrooms, laboratories, libraries and sports facilities. With your housing and dining needs met, you are free to concentrate on being a full-time student.

As part of a diverse community of over 9,300 undergraduates, you have many opportunities for interaction that contribute to your academic success and personal growth. Studies show that students who live on campus perform better academically, have more contact with faculty, and are generally happier with their college experience than students who commute. You can choose from several on-campus housing options, all of which encourage discovery and emphasize community.

Housing is not guaranteed for exchange students. Students may apply for the University Residence Halls and Apartments through the UCLA housing website (www.housing.ucla.edu/myhousing).

Off-campus housing:
Students who prefer more independent living can choose from a variety of University-owned and privately-owned off-campus living options. Conveniently located within walking distance of campus, University Apartments offers single undergraduates a variety of furnished units. Five miles south of campus, UCLA’s University Village is designed especially for married students with or without children, students with same-gender domestic partners, and single parents. The Community Housing Office (http://www.cho.ucla.edu/) offers resources to students interested in finding different types of privately-owned housing in neighborhoods close to campus.

Health insurance:
All students who attend US universities on exchange are required to purchase the health insurance recommended by their host university as part of the registration process. In addition, they can also purchase additional optional insurance from a private insurer for their term of study overseas. These short term optional insurance plans cover events such as personal accident, accidental medical expenses, emergency medical evacuation etc. At UCLA, students are automatically enrolled in the University’s Student Health Insurance Plan unless they complete a waiver form that provides proof of equivalent coverage, and it is approved. More information about the waiver can be found at http://www.studenthealth.ucla.edu/.
