Case Western Reserve University is a private research university located in Cleveland, Ohio, United States, with some residence halls on the south end of campus located in Cleveland Heights. It was formed in 1967 by the federation of Case Institute of Technology (founded in 1880 by philanthropist Leonard Case Jr.) and Western Reserve University (founded in 1826 as the Western Reserve College in the area that was once the Connecticut Western Reserve). The university offers programs of study in Arts and Sciences, Dentistry, Engineering, Law, Management, Medicine, Nursing, and Social Sciences.
Case Western Reserve University is continually ranked among the country's top research universities, but the numbers does not bind its success. | Housing Options |

Students may request housing for either north or south campus residence halls and are not permitted to reside off campus or in fraternity or sorority houses. The housing application can be downloaded from the housing web site (http://studentaffairs.case.edu/living/). The application can be submitted once you receive your letter of admission and DS-2019.
You will be required to supply your bed linens, pillows, towels, etc. There are several shopping areas within bus/taxi distance. Severance Mall is located on Mayfield Road and South Taylor Road in Cleveland Heights (not within walking distance!). Many stores close by 5:00pm on Sundays so please keep that in mind. You may wish to have items shipped to your designated check-in location (to arrive no more that one week in advance) to that they are here when you arrive on campus.
Health Insurance:
All students who attend US universities on exchange are required to purchase the health insurance recommended by their host university as part of the registration process. In addition, they can also purchase additional optional insurance from a private insurer for their term of study overseas. These short term optional insurance plans cover events such as personal accident, accidental medical expenses, emergency medical evacuation etc.

Visa Matters:
The DS-2019 form is to be presented to the U.S. consulate or U.S. embassy to apply for an Exchange Visitor (J-1) visa. Make an appointment as soon as possible because lengthy delays may occur as background checks are performed prior to your appointment.
Consular standards for visa eligibility may be considerably more rigorous than the standards you must meet to qualify for a DS-2019. The Consular Officer will require you to provide the same (and possibly additional) financial documentation you provided Case Western Reserve University. You will be required to show this documentation again upon arrival in the United States at your port of entry. United States government regulations require you to attend the school which issues the visa certificate you use to enter the U.S.
