Founded in 1959, York University is now Canada's third largest university, and world-renowned for attracting students who forge their own unique paths. With its combination of dedicated and talented faculty, bright and ambitious students, dynamic curriculum, and two modern campuses in the heart of one of North America's most influential urban centres, York University caters to students seeking standard in academic excellence, flexibility and a wide range of cross-disciplinary programmes.
York provides full and part-time graduate and undergraduate degree programs to 39,600 students through its ten faculties: Arts, Atkinson Faculty of Liberal & Professional Studies, Education, Environmental Studies, Fine Arts, Glendon, Graduate Studies, Osgoode Hall Law School, Pure & Applied Science, and Schulich School of Business.
York's Keele campus is the largest post-secondary campus in Canada. The intellectual, cultural and social life at York is one of the richest in Canada with 225 student clubs and organizations; two student-run publications and three broadcast programs; two art galleries; 33 on-campus eateries; and a retail mall. York also offers 29 interuniversity sport teams, 12 sport clubs, 35 intramural sport leagues, special events and 10 pick-up sport activities offered daily with first rate athletic facilities.

- Programme Restrictions
- Faculty of Law and School of Business have separate agreements. Students going on University-wide exchange will not be able to access Law and Biz courses from Osgoode Hall Law School and Schulich School of Business at York University.
- Fine Arts courses usually have auditions the previous semester, hence students will not be able to access unless they go for a year. Spaces are limited in this faculty and classes fill up quickly. Students from partner institutions without a specifically signed departmental agreement will not be able to pursue production-based courses.

- There are 2 campuses - Keele and Glendon Campus. Students should mainly take courses from the Keele campus. If they wish to take courses from the Glendon campus, they should not schedule them on the same day as the Keele campus courses.

On-campus Housing:
Housing arrangements are made through York International. ROOMS ARE LIMITED. Applications will be sent separately and must be returned to York International no later than May 1 in any given year.
Students applying for undergraduate residences (http://www.yorku.ca/stuhouse/index.htm) must be registered in an undergraduate programme at York University, and should be 22 years or younger. Students living in undergraduate residences will be required to purchase a meal plan.
Undergraduate on-campus rooms allocated for exchange students do not include suites or rooms with kitchen facilities. York International cannot guarantee space in a particular building. Only applications (http://international.yorku.ca/exchange/incoming/housingap.pdf) received by the housing deadline can be considered for space.
Students must be enrolled in 24 York credits in an academic year (12 in a term) in order to stay in on-campus accommodation.

Off-campus housing:
Students choosing not to live in on-campus accommodations are responsible for securing their own housing off-campus. The York off-campus housing website (www.yorku.ca/och) can help you find appropriate housing. They also have information on short-term accommodation, in case students need a place for a couple of days while they look for accommodation, or if they are in the process of moving between apartments. If students plan on looking for a place once they arrive to Canada please note that there are places at York University and also other areas in Toronto that provide short-term housing. Insurance:
Health insurance is mandatory for all international exchange students. Students are covered by the University Health Insurance Plan (UHIP). Please visit their website at http://international.yorku.ca/uhip/index.htm for details of coverage. Secondary health insurance plans (YFS, Atkinson’s Association Benefits and the Graduate Students’ Health plan) are also automatically charged to students. Students with proof of similar coverage may apply to opt out of the secondary plan. Generally the secondary plan can cover dental and non emergency medical care. Students should review the information on each plan carefully.
