Since 1848 the University of Ottawa has been Canada’s university. Located in the heart of the nation’s capital, the University has emerged as a vibrant “centre of learning”, with a total population including students, teaching and support staff – of 40,000. The largest bilingual university in North America, the University is a major player in the cultural and economic development of the National Capital Region. It enrolls approximately 7,800 undergraduate students and 1,400 graduate students.

Course Restrictions:
- Exchange students cannot take courses in the faculties of Medicine and Education.
- Enrolment in some programs, such as Common Law and Software Engineering, is limited.
- The School of Management administers its own exchange programs.

Register your course registration at Infoweb (https://web3.uottawa.ca/infoweb/logon/en.html). You will need your student number and your InfoWeb password that has been sent to you in your admission package.

Housing is not guaranteed for students on exchange to UOttawa.
Accepted exchange students who are assigned a room in a university residence will be given an Offer of Accommodation in their welcome kit.
Please take note that a room in a University residence costs approximately Can$700.00 per month while the price for off-campus housing varies from Can$450.00 to Can$750.00 per month. For off-campus housing, you can consult the off-campus housing website at http://www.uottawa.ca/students/housing/OCH/ for further information.

Health Insurance
All international exchange students are required to subscribe to the University Health Insurance Plan (UHIP). However, students who subscribe to a complementary health insurance policy prior to leaving their country of origin may be exempted from paying the UHIP fees. For the list of insurance policies that may grant exemption may be found at www.uhip.ca/_bin/exemptions/preapprovedPlans.cfm.
The premiums are: Can$252 for four months; Can$504 for eight months and Can$756 for 12 months. For more information, please visit www.uOttawa.ca/international/students/uhip.html.
Study Permit:
Unless you are a permanent resident of Canada or a Canadian citizen, you must have a valid study permit in order to study and live in Canada. A study permit must be obtained while you are in you own country, or the country you legally reside in. Canadian immigration laws do not permit the initial application to be made from within Canada. You will need to contact the Canadian Embassy, Consulate or High Commission for your study permit.
