The University of Otago, founded in 1869, is New Zealand's oldest university. Otago has earned an international reputation for the quality of its research and teaching. The University was started to teach subjects in the field of Arts, Medicine, Law and Music. Although Otago has teaching facilities in each of the New Zealand’s main cities of Auckland, Wellington and Christchurch, its main campus is in Dunedin, in the South Island.

A full time student is required to take a minimum of 54 points to 81 points per semester. The list of subjects is available at www.otago.ac.nz/subjects. Medicine, Dentistry, Psychiatry, Physiotherapy, Pharmacology, Pharmacy or any other clinical course are restricted courses, while MBA courses are not available to exchange students unless by prior arrangement.

On-campus accommodation:
There are 12 fully catered residential colleges and a self-catering Toroa International House. There is also an additional single semester option available at Cumberland Court.. Prices range from NZD$1110 to NZD$1140 per month for fully catered, and NZD$720 for self catered.
Off-campus accommodation:
There are many options available such as flatting, private board and home stays.
