Korea Advanced Institute of Science and Technology (KAIST) was founded in 1971. KAIST is striving to become one of the highest ranked research and educational institutes in the world. KAIST is situated in the geographical center of South Korea - about 100miles from Seoul and 200miles from Pusan. The KAIST Taejeon campus is located within Taduk Science Town in the city of Daejeon. Most courses are taught in the Korean Language.

Credit is based on the level of importance of the particular course and the allocated lecture time and accordingly, courses of 1, 2, 3, and 4 credits are allocated. 1-credit courses span one semester with one hour per week lecture time. 1-credit lab courses span one semester with three hour per week lab time. Generally, students take 12 to 24 credits every semester.
 
Housing Options

On-campus accommodation:
There are 7 undergraduate buildings for undergraduate students. Dormitory rooms are furnished with beds, cupboards and desks. Sheets, pillows, pillowcases and blankets are not provided. Restrooms, showers, coin-operated washing machines and computer labs are shared in the dormitory. Kitchen facilities are not available in the dormitory. Meal services are available at on-campus cafeterias, serving meals three times a day, Monday through Sunday. The average price of a meal is US$2. Each room is shared by two students. Dormitory fee is about 260,000 won, for twin-sharing (for 4 months).

Additional Information

A single international student living alone in an on-campus dormitory requires approximately US$320 per month for living expenses. (Rental fee of dormitory rooms is US$65. A meal at the campus cafeteria is around US$2-3.

Insurance:
International exchange students, visiting students, and internship students coming to KAIST should arrange for health insurance from their respective home countries. Exchange students should submit a copy of their health insurance to the International Relations Office upon their arrival.
