Founded in 1897, Kyoto University was the second university to be established in Japan. For the last few years, Kyoto University has been putting more emphasis on activities at the graduate level, and has established new graduate schools to cope with those emerging problems expected to be critical in this century. The courses are taught in the Japanese Language.

On campus accommodation: There are 4 students’ dormitories and several international houses available.
Off campus accommodation: Private apartments may be made available through the Foreign Student Division. The monthly rent for a studio-size apartment in Kyoto City ranges from 40,000 yen to 60,000 yen.

Students should allow an additional living expenses of 50 000 to 70 000 yen a month.
Insurance:
International students are eligible for National Health Insurance, and are required to join if they are
staying in Japan for one year or longer.Please refer to the International Student Health Guide issued by
the Association of International Education, Japan, which you receive when you enter Kyoto University.
