  • Second Semester: Mid-July to Late November

University’s faculties/schools:
The University’s courses are taught in the faculties of Architecture, Building and Planning; Arts; Economics and Commerce; Engineering; Education; Land and Food Resources; Law; Medicine, Dentistry and Health Sciences; Music; Science; and Veterinary Science. (http://www.unimelb.edu.au/HB/)

Housing Options

Exchange students can choose from a range of housing options in Melbourne. These include affiliated and non-affiliated accommodation packages in Residential Colleges, student apartments or hostels located around the campus and independent accommodation arrangements such as shared housing or renting a property.

In Semester One (Feb intake), Study Abroad and Exchange students can apply via OASIIS (http://oasiis.acs.unimelb.edu.au/) for a place in a Residential College only. Students who are not offered a place in a Residential College will automatically be offered housing in a twinshare apartment at College Square on Swanston. In Semester Two (July intake), students may apply direct on OASIIS for a place at College Square without first applying to the Residential Colleges. This is possible due to increased availability of apartments in the second half of the year.

The monthly rental/residence fees is estimated at AUD$516 for Rental Accommodation, AUD$1010 for University Accommodation (College Square apartments) and AUD$1800 for Residential College.

Insurance:
All international students studying in Australia are required to purchase an approved Overseas Student Health Cover (OSHC) policy. OSHC is a condition of the Overseas Student Visa issued by the Australian Immigration authorities. Depending on the insurance firm you buy your OSHC policy from, an OSHC policy would generally cost:

  • AUD$175 - 6 months
  • AUD$349 - 12 months

For more information about OSHC, please refer to
http://www.services.unimelb.edu.au/international/visas/oshc.html, https://www.oshcworldcare.com.au/Default.aspx

Visa matters:
Your Confirmation of Enrolment (CoE) and 'Letter of Acceptance' are needed to apply for a Student Visa.  You should not leave your home country without first securing an Australian Student Visa. Exchange students are classified as a non-award student (Student visa sub class 575). Students from assessment level 3 and 4 countries, including China, India, Indonesia, Sri Lanka and Vietnam, need to be aware that they may be required to provide an IELTS test and this may lengthen the visa process.
