" I hold dear in my memories the day my Australian friend brought me to explore the nearby coast of Bateman’s Bay, which is three hours away from Canberra. I still marvel at the sight of the thirty or forty kangaroos I see when I am out at Mt. Ainslie, a hill at the back of my Hall; it was at this place that I actually saw a real kangaroo hopping through someone’s backyard.”

Lee Huiying, SEP at Australian National University, 2004

Australia In Brief

The continent nation comprises of eight states, each demonstrating the Australian’s love of life and enjoyment of the great outdoors with its unique sights, must-dos and lifestyles.

Academic Life

“In Australia, Law Degrees are pursued in a different fashion from what we have in Singapore – everyone doing a Law Degree would have either gotten a degree already or would be doing a double degree. The people I met in the faculty were from several different countries. I had Malaysian friends, Filipino friends and Korean friends on top of the Australian friends I made. It was very interesting as some of these people shared experiences from the working world with me.”
– Tan Mei Hui, Australian National University, 2005

“The university’s international ranking and reputation was one of the factors that influenced me to apply to go on SEP at (the University of) Melbourne. More importantly, the strong tie between UM and NUS also meant that I could have my credits transferred with ease. On a more personal note, the generous self-study time and fewer contact hours that UM offered allowed me to budget my time more effectively.”– Cu Brice Kevin Pua, University of Melbourne, 2005

“Academically, the classes I took were very stimulating. I liked that most lecturers were interested in things beyond the course they taught and constantly brought in ideas from other disciplines, and always encouraged students to look at the bigger picture.” – Tse Jia-Lin Angeline, University of Western Australia, 2005

“The whole university culture is quite different from that in Singapore. Students are given the freedom to voice their opinions and fight for their rights in the campus.”- Lee Wee Boon, University of Queensland, 2004

“Life in school was equally exciting. Their lectures were much more interactive and punctuality was a must. Tutorials were also carried out in a different style where students bombard tutors with their queries which is definitely not the norm in NUS.” – Wendy Cheng, University of Queensland, 2003
