Xiamen University Summer Programme
What is this programme about?
The China Study Summer Programme is a 3 week intensive programme that includes in-depth academic studies and special cultural events. It introduced students to Xiamen, which is one of the first four economic zones in China. It is also a gateway to overseas for China, in particular to Taiwan.
When does the programme take place?
24 June to 12 July 2013
Where does the programme take place?
Xiamen, PRC which has a pleasant climate, beautiful land and seascapes, top scenic spots, extensive shopping facilities as well as rich local culture and cuisine.
What is the academic content?
Each participant of the XMU China Study Summer Programme will take 3 modules.
Academic credit MAY be available. Credit for the programme is strictly at the student’s discretion. Students interested in obtaining credit must work with their faculty for credit mapping. IRO does not apply for credit transfer on the students’ behalf.
The first module will be “Chinese Language” (28 class hours).
The second module will be “Changing China and its Economic Reforms”.

Cultural Excursions:
Xiamen University China Study Summer Programme provides international students with many opportunities to explore outside the classroom. During their stay in Xiamen, students will take part in a variety of cultural excursions so as to explore the vigorous local society and experience the wonderful local culture.

What is the student accommodation?
Participants will live in the student dormitory on campus which are located within walking distance of all facilities.

Is financial assistance available?
Yes. Students can apply for the NASA Enhancement Bursary* (by Financial Need) or NASA Enhancement Scholarship (by Merit). More information here.

Is a visa required?
Yes. Xiamen University will assist in providing documentation needed to apply for a visa.
Students are to consult the Embassy of China in Singapore to determine if a visa is required and to apply for an entry visa if needed.

How do I apply?
Application Deadline: 8 April 2013.
All applications are to be submitted via OPAS.
Your home faculty will conduct the initial round of selection and nominate selected students to IRO. Students will be notified by IRO on the final status of their application by mid April 2013.
