Stellenbosch Summer Program
What is this program about?
As one of the best equipped universities on the African continent, Stellenbosch University offers access to state-of the-art research equipment, libraries and electronic resources coupled with exceptional academic supervision.
Stellenbosch Summer Program presents a well-balanced academic program which combines theory and practice in an organic manner. The social program is designed to support the academic program and provides an introduction to the cultural diversity of Stellenbosch and the Western Cape. Every year Stellenbosch University welcomes between 60 and 80 students from around the world in its Summer School.
The academic program consists of lectures, group discussions and field trips, and is taught by Stellenbosch University faculty and South African experts. The lectures cover a variety of topics, including Community Engagement, History, Politics, Bio-diversity, Art, Literature, Sociology, the HIV/AIDS Epidemic, Democratic Consolidation in South Africa, Economics and Philosophy.
Students can choose from the following program options.

Option 3: Entrepreneurship, Innovation and Growth in South Africa
Option 4: Doing Business in Southern Africa

Where does the program take place?
Stellenbosch, South Africa.
The charming university town of Stellenbosch is situated in the heart of the Cape Winelands, surrounded by magnificent mountains. Stellenbosch is only 20 minutes from the nearest beaches and 30 minutes from Cape Town.
What is the academic content?
Stellenbosch Summer Program is worth 12-14 ECTS credits. Students interested in obtaining credit must work with their faculty for credit mapping and complete the credit transfer application before embarking on the program. IRO does not apply for credit transfer on the students’ behalf.
What does the programme include?
The total summer school fees are R 30 800 for option 1 & 3 (S$4,272) and R 36 000 for option 2 & 4 (S$4,994). The price per student includes the following components:

What is the student accommodation?
Stellenbosch Summer school participants are housed in a centrally located student dormitory on campus. More information on housing can be found here.

Is financial assistance available?
Yes. Students can apply for the NASA Enhancement Awards through IRO.

Is a visa required?
Singaporean passport holders will not require a visa to participate in the programme. Passport holders of other countries should find out if they require a visa by contacting High Commission of South Africa in Singapore.

How do I apply?
Deadline to submit an online application (OPAS) to IRO: 8 February 2013.
(NUS students do not need to apply on Stellenbosch Summer Program website. Those selected by IRO will be nominated to Stellenbosch University directly).
All applications are to be submitted via OPAS.
IRO will notify students about their application status by the 22 February.
