What is this program about?
Expand your academic learning during the summer break by participating in the Stanford University Summer Session programme. Enroll in courses and earn academic credit at one the of the most competitive universities in the United States. Students can choose from over 175 courses offered in 35 departments within the schools of Humanities and Sciences, Earth Sciences, and Engineering. Courses offered feature accessible instructors, small class sizes, and a diverse student body.

As the programme will end after the new semester begins at NUS, students interested in the Stanford Summer Session must consult their faculty about the need for a Leave Of Absence (LOA) BEFORE applying for this programme.

What is the academic content?
The Stanford Summer Session follows a summer school concept, and offers over 175 undergraduate courses in more than 35 disciplines. Students will take 8 to 15 credit units worth of courses (equivalent to between two to four courses of three or four credit units each). A preview of the courses available in 2013 is available on this webpage.
Academic credit MAY be available. Students interested in obtaining credit must work with their faculty for credit mapping. IRO does not apply for credit transfer on the students’ behalf.
What does it include?
Students enjoy access to all on-campus facilities and services at Stanford University for the duration of the Summer Session.
What is the student accommodation?
Students can begin applying for on-campus housing after they have been admitted into the Stanford Summer Session and have received their Stanford ID number. On-campus residences typically have their own lounge, computer cluster, laundry facility, and common area. Student rooms are equipped with window coverings and furnished with an extra-long twin bed, desk and chair, bookcase, dresser, and closet for each roommate. In addition, each room has a private telephone and is wired for an internet connection. Wireless connectivity is also available in residence halls. Pillows, bed linens, and towels are not provided for residential students, but may be brought from home or purchased at local stores during Welcome Weekend. Complete Housing and Dining information is provided upon admission to Summer Session.

There is no pre-determined limit on the number of placements available to NUS students.

Is a visa required?
Yes. Stanford University will assist in providing documentation needed to apply for a visa.
Students are to consult the Embassy of the United States in Singapore to determine the visa application procedures required for their participation in the programme.

How do I apply?
Application deadline is Monday, 1 April 2013.
All applications are to be submitted via OPAS.
IRO will notify students about their application status as soon as possible. Students approved by IRO to participate in the programme will need to complete the online Stanford University registration to certify their participation in the programme. IRO will provide approved applicants with a customised guide to help in the application procedures required by Stanford University.
