Nankai University Summer Session


What is this programme about?

Since 1980, Nankai University has signed long-term cooperation and exchange agreement with more than 20 sister universities or institutes in American, Japan, Canada, Korea, Germany, Finland, and Australia. Every year Nankai organize short-term Chinese language training courses (4-8 weeks in summer or winter) for their students. To fulfill request of both schools and students themselves, many subjects are introduced to short term programmes. Besides Chinese language, Chinese society, politics, economy, calligraphy, traditional Chinese painting, Peking opera, and folk music are also on the teaching list. According to the agreements, the credit the students get can be transferred back to their schools.

Due to recent economic growth, China's success in WTO bid and increasing number of foreign investments, variety of related topics like Chinese economy, international trade and international commercial management have been introduced to these short term programmes.

What is the programme content?

Every year Nankai organizes short-term Chinese Language training courses (4-24 weeks in the summer or winter) for their students. In addition to Chinese Language, Chinese society, politics, economy, calligraphy, traditional Chinese painting, Peking opera, and folk music has also been added to the course content.

Room facilities include bathroom (24hours hot water), TV, telephone, air conditioner, heat, safety box and internet. Public facilities include Kitchen, phone, laundry, shop, restaurant, business center.


Is financial assistance available?

Yes. Students can apply for the NASA Enhancement Bursary* (by Financial Need) or NASA Enhancement Scholarship (by Merit). More information here.


Number of placements available?

6 students will be selected by the faculties and IRO to participate in the programme on a tuition-waiver basis.


What are the eligibility requirements?

Students should not be in their graduating semester prior to participating in this programme.

CAP of 3.0 and above. 


Is a visa required?

Yes.

Students are to consult the Chinese Embassy in Singapore to determine if a visa is required and to apply for an entry visa if needed.

Students are responsible for ensuring that they have proper entry documents for all countries they plan to visit as part of this programme!


How do I apply?

Application Deadline: Wednesday, 13 March 2013

All applications are to be submitted via OPAS.

Your home faculty will conduct the initial round of selection and nominate selected students to IRO. Students will be notified by IRO on the final status of their application by March 2013.
