Modern China International Cultural Exchange Programme


What is this program about?

This 2 week summer program is organized by HICA (HIT International Communication Association) which is a student organization affiliated with the Harbin Institute of Technology (HIT) International Office. HICA is committed to promoting international activities on student level.

This year, nearly 200 university students from all around Asia, America, Europe and Oceania are invited for participation. Through this programme, participants will gain a better knowledge of unique Harbin, one of the most renowned industrial and agricultural centres in China.

What is the programme content?

The program includes lectures on specific topics related to China and offers culture experiencing opportunities.

There will be field trips to (1) Industry sites; (2) Agriculture sites; (3) Environment sites. Students may choose one among these three options.

What is the student accommodation?

On-campus accommodation will be arranged.

Is financial assistance available?

Yes. Students can apply for the NASA Enhancement Bursary* (by Financial Need) or NASA Enhancement Scholarship (by Merit). More information here.


Number of placements available?

There will be 10 fee-waiver places for NUS students.

Students who do not get nominated for those places may still be able to embark on the programme as full fee-paying students.


What are the eligibility requirements?

Students should not be in their graduating semester prior to participating in this programme.

CAP of 3.0 and above. 


Is a visa required?

No, if student is of Singaporean nationality.

Students of other nationality should consult the Chinese Embassy in Singapore to determine if a visa is required and to apply for an entry visa if needed.

Students are responsible for ensuring that they have proper entry documents for all countries they plan to visit as part of this programme!


How do I apply?

Application deadline: 4 February 2013

All applications are to be submitted via OPAS.

Your home faculty will conduct the initial round of selection and nominate selected students to IRO. Students will be notified by IRO on the final status of their application by March 2013.
