Humboldt University of Berlin Summer Program


What is this program about?

Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin is one of the leading higher educational institutions in Germany and is situated in the unique and historical city of Berlin. During the semester breaks, the university offers an intense program for students from abroad, which gives students the opportunity to explore the university, the city and its inhabitants. Throughout the last few years, over 1,000 students from around the world have studied together, made lasting friendships and had unforgettable experiences that only Berlin can offer.


When does the programme take place?

June, July, August. Courses last for 2-3 three weeks.

What is the academic content?

Academic credit MAY be available. Credit for the internship is strictly at the student’s discretion. Students interested in obtaining credit must work with their faculty for credit mapping and complete the credit transfer application before embarking on the program. IRO does not apply for credit transfer on the students’ behalf.

NUS undergraduate students can take master-level courses if they have completed at least half of their undergraduate studies (year 2 and 3).

What does the programme include?

Course fees vary from course to course. Please see course description for details on the course fee. Students can take 1 course or combine it with other courses.

The course fee includes:

 
  • Academic lessons
  • Cultural and leisure programs
  • Registration fee
  • Information package and course materials
  • Grade certificate and ECTS credit points
  • Computer and internet access at the Computer and Media Centre at Humboldt-Universität (for students Microsoft programs, for non-students Open Office programs)
  • Free entrance to the museums of Humboldt-Universität
  • A German tutor student will be available for questions and conversation

 

What is the student accommodation?

HUWISU offers student apartments for rent for the duration of most courses. The rent for a single room in student apartments is 375 euros. A deposit of 50 euros has to be paid in cash upon arrival. More information on the accommodation can be found here.

The accommodation fee of 375 euros is for four weeks. Students who take one two-week course can stay up to four weeks in their apartments. Unfortunately, option of a two-week price for the rooms is not available because of the contractual restrictions by the rental agency.

NUS students enjoy the following fee deductions:
Early bird discount: €50
Course -combination discount: €50 (if students choose to take more than 1 course)
Partnership discount: €50

Is financial assistance available?

No financial support from Ulm University is available. Students can apply for the NASA Enhancement Awards through IRO.

What are the eligibility requirements?

 
  • Any Faculty
  • CAP of 3.0 and above
  • Must have completed at least one year of University study by the time program starts.
  • Students in graduate semester are not eligible. 

 

Is a visa required?

Singaporeans holding a Singapore passport will not require a visa to participate in the programme.  Passport holders of other countries should find out if they require a visa by contacting the German embassy in Singapore.

How do I apply?

Deadline to submit an online application (OPAS) to IRO: 4 February 2013.

Deadline to register on HUWISU summer program website: 15 February 2013.

(Only those selected by IRO need to register on HUWISU website).

All applications are to be submitted via OPAS.
