What is this programme about?
AU Summer University takes place at Aarhus University throughout July and August. The programme consists of a portfolio of courses taught in English at Bachelor, Master and PhD level within the fields of Humanities, Theology, Social Sciences, Health Sciences, Natural Sciences, Agricultural Sciences, Business and Educational Sciences.
Where does it take place?
Aarhus University, Aarhus, Denmark. The city of Aarhus is located 3 hours by train from Copenhagen. With a population of more than 300,000, Aarhus is Denmark's second largest city and is listed among Denmark’s ten most important architectural icons.
Aarhus University (AU) is a comprehensive university located in city of Aarhus with a student body of more than 38,000. AU has one of the largest medical schools in northern Europe, a business school and strong educational and research environments in natural sciences, social sciences and arts.
In recent years, Aarhus University has been moving up in the most important international rankings. Among over 17,000 universities world-wide, Aarhus University is ranked in the top 100 by several influential rankings.
What is the programme content?
Multi-disciplinary across all faculties
In Summer 2012, 78 courses will be taught by Danish and international guest lecturers from all over the world. Courses are available at Bachelor and Master level in the following disciplines.

Students can only attend one course per term, but when applying it is possible to indicate two courses as their first and second choice.
Courses are available at both undergraduate (BA) and graduate level (MA). Students must be in their 3rd year in order to sign up for Master level courses.
5 ECTS courses provide 27 hours of classroom lectures over 3 weeks. 10 ECTS courses have 54 hours of lectures distributed over 4 weeks. However, actual hour of lectures might vary as some courses condense teaching in 2 weeks and allow students 1 week to study for exams (5 ECTS) or 3 weeks of teaching and one week of exam preparation (10 ECTS).

Along with the academic programme, Aarhus Summer University provides a social programme for each Term with an average of 3 to 4 group activities per week. Highlights of the social programme include a visit to Legoland (Lego-themed park), a beach BBQ dinner and volleyball, and a canoeing trip.
When does the programme take place?
AU Summer University is divided into 3 terms of 3 to 4 weeks each. In each term, students can earn either 5 or 10 ECTS credits depending on course selection.
Term 1, 2012:
2 – 20 July (5 ECTS)
2 – 27 July (10 ECTS)
Term 2, 2012:
16 July – 3 August (5 ECTS)
16 July – 10 August (10 ECTS)
Term 3, 2012:
30 July – 17 August (5 ECTS)
30 July - 24 August (10 ECTS)
Courses taken during the AU Summer University will be awarded 5 or 10 ECTs by AU depending on the length and level of the course.
Academic credit transfer MAY be available. Students interested in obtaining credit must work with their faculty for credit mapping prior to starting the program. IRO does not apply for credit transfer on the students’ behalf.
What is the student accommodation?
Various accommodation options are available for participants of AU Summer University. Housing reservation needs to be made 2-3 months in advance. More information can be found here.
How much does the programme cost?
9 NUS students will be selected by IRO and Faculties to participate in the programme on full programme fee waiver basis.

Please note, these are estimated expenses and actual expenses may differ based on price shifts, personal spending habits and the length of the internship.
Is financial assistance available?
Accepted students can apply for IRO Study and Travel Grant.
Students interested in additional financial support are to contact their faculty SEP administrator to enquire about financial aid available at their Faculty.
Number of placements available?
9 students will be selected by the faculties and IRO to participate in the programme on a tuition-waiver basis. All other applicants may be offered a fee-paying place in the programme by Aarhus University.

Is a visa required?
Students are to consult Embassy of Denmark in Singapore to determine if a visa is required and to apply for an entry visa if needed.

How do I apply?
Application Deadline: 8 February 2013.
All applications are to be submitted via OPAS.
Your home faculty will conduct the initial round of selection and nominate selected students to IRO. Students will be notified by IRO on the final status of their application by early March 2013.
