Tec de Monterrey – Summer in Queretaro


What is this program about?

The “Summer in Queretaro” programme is a six-week summer school held at Tecnologico de Monterrey, Campus Queretaro, in Mexico. The institution is is one of the top universities in Central / Latin America. Students will have the opportunity to study, live and interact with Mexican and international students in the beautiful city of Queretaro, a UNESCO World Cultural Heritage Site and one of the safest cities in Mexico. Optional social activities are also offered, and will allow students to experience the natural beauty and vibrant culture of Mexico.

The summer school offers a selection of courses taught in both English and Spanish. Students participating in the programme will be able to study unique courses not available at NUS, such as Spanish language and Mexican culture.

Wednesday, 23 May 2012 to Wednesday, 4 July 2012.

Tecnológico de Monterrey, Campus Querétaro, Mexico.

For an additional fee, participants can also choose to participate in optional social trips to various destinations in Mexico:

 
  • Ixtapa
  • Mexico City and Teotihuacan
  • Guanajuato

 

What is the academic content?

Summer courses at Campus Queretaro are taught in English and Spanish, and each participant can choose two courses of study. Courses taught in English can be arranged for NUS students once a minimum class size is established for the specified course. The courses offered include:

 
  • Introduction to Mexican Culture
  • Spanish (Basic/Intermediate/Advanced)
  • Ecology and Sustainable Development
  • Doing Business in Mexico
  • Leadership for Entrepreneurial Development
  • Ethics, Profession and Citizenship


Academic credit MAY be available. Credit for the programme is strictly at the student’s discretion. Students interested in obtaining credit must work with their faculty for credit mapping. IRO does not apply for credit transfer on the students’ behalf.


What does it include?

The following facilities and services will be available to participants:

 
  • Airport pick-up/meet-and-greet at Queretaro or Mexico City airports;
  • Welcome/orientation briefing;
  • Student/peer support services by the International Programs Office;
  • Participation in two courses of study;
  • Access to campus facilities.

 

What is the student accommodation?

Students can choose between the on-campus Residence Halls (room only) or the off-campus Host Family Program (room and board). The Residence Halls will allow students to meet other international students, while the Host Family Program would provide for the experience of living with a Mexican family.


How much does it cost?

NUS students will enjoy tuition-waiver on the two courses they study. See table below for an estimate of other costs.

Is financial assistance available?

Yes. Students can apply for a study travel grant from the International Relations Office.

Additionally, Singaporeans and Singapore PRs may be eligible to receiving funding from IE Singapore under the IBF Undergraduate Programme.

What are the eligibility requirements?

 
  • NUS undergraduates from any faculty who have completed at least one year of study at NUS prior to participating in this programme.
  • Students should not be in their graduating semester prior to participating in this programme.
  • CAP of 3.0 and above.


Is a visa required?

Depends on nationality of the NUS student. Singaporeans need not apply for a separate visa to participate as they can arrive in Mexico on a visa-waiver tourist status.

Students are responsible for ensuring that they have proper entry documents for all countries they plan to visit as part of this programme!
