Tecnologico de Monterrey – Summer in Queretaro Mexico


What is this program about?

The “Summer in Queretaro” programme is a six-week summer school held at Tecnologico de Monterrey, Campus Queretaro, in Mexico. The institution is is one of the top universities in Central / Latin America. Students will have the opportunity to study, live and interact with Mexican and international students in the beautiful city of Queretaro, a UNESCO World Cultural Heritage Site and one of the safest cities in Mexico. Optional social activities are also offered, and will allow students to experience the natural beauty and vibrant culture of Mexico.

The summer school offers a selection of courses taught in both English and Spanish. Students participating in the programme will be able to study unique courses not available at NUS, such as Spanish language and Mexican culture.

What is the academic content?

Summer courses at Campus Queretaro are taught in English and Spanish, and each participant can choose two courses of study. Courses taught in English can be arranged for NUS students once a minimum class size is established for the specified course. The courses on offer in 2013 include:

 
  • Introduction to Mexican Culture
  • Spanish (Basic/Intermediate/Advanced)
  • Ecology and Sustainable Development
  • Doing Business in Mexico
  • Leadership for Entrepreneurial Development
  • Ethics, Profession and Citizenship


Academic credit MAY be available. Students interested in obtaining credit must work with their faculty for credit mapping. IRO does not apply for credit transfer on the students’ behalf.


What does it include?

The following facilities and services will be available to participants:

 
  • Airport pick-up/meet-and-greet at Queretaro or Mexico City airports;
  • Welcome/orientation briefing;
  • Student/peer support services by the International Programs Office;
  • Participation in two courses of study;
  • Access to campus facilities.

 

What is the student accommodation?

Students can choose between the on-campus Residence Halls (room only) or the off-campus Host Family Program (room and board). The Residence Halls will allow students to meet other international students, while the Host Family Program would provide for the experience of living with a Mexican family.


How much does it cost?

NUS students will enjoy tuition-waiver on the two courses they study. See table below for an estimate of other costs.

What are the eligibility requirements?

 
  • Undergraduates from the following faculties/schools:
    • Arts and Social Sciences
    • Business
    • Computing (including CEG)
    • Design and Environment
    • Engineering
    • Law
    • Science
    • University Scholars Programme
  • Must have completed at least one year of study at NUS prior to participation in this programme.
  • Should not be in their graduating semester prior to participation in this programme.
  • CAP of 3.0 and above.


Is a visa required?

The need for a visa depends on the nationality of the NUS student. Singaporeans can participate on a visa-waiver tourist status. All other nationalities should consult the Embassy of Mexico in Singapore to determine the specifics of the visa application procedures.

For students travelling to Mexico via the US, please note that you will be required to apply for a US transit visa as well.  Please consult the US Embassy for details of this requirement.

Students are responsible for ensuring that they have proper entry documents for all countries they plan to visit as part of this programme!


How do I apply?

Application Deadline: Friday, 8 February 2013.

All applications are to be submitted via OPAS.

Your home faculty will conduct the initial round of selection and nominate selected students to IRO. Students will be notified by IRO on the final status of their application by early March 2013.
