International Research Attachment Programme with Ulm University


What is this program about?

Ulm University, located in the Southwest of Germany, is committed to first class research and teaching. More than 7,000 students study in its modern, lavishly green campus located in the unique science city, high above the old imperial town of Ulm, the birth place of Albert Einstein.

Ulm University focuses mainly on natural sciences, life sciences and engineering. Basic and applied research is very strong at the University, ranked between the top 10 German Universities. Learn more about a remarkable amount of research topics at http://www.uni-ulm.de/en/fakultaeten.html.

Research groups are set up internationally, the language in the labs is English. Host departments have substantial experience in hosting students from abroad.

The International Research Attachment to Ulm University offers NUS students the opportunities to conduct short-term research under the supervision of researchers at Ulm University. More information can be found here.

3 June - 31 July (2 months)


Where does it take place?

Ulm city, Germany

The town of Ulm has a beautiful old center on the banks of river Danube. It is absolutely safe and has a clean environment in a wonderful landscape setting. Although the city of Ulm is comparatively small, students enjoy the abundance of shopping opportunities, excellent public transportation, cultural variety and international atmosphere.


What is the program content?

Academic credit MAY be available. Credit for the internship is strictly at the student’s discretion. Students interested in obtaining credit must work with their faculty for credit mapping and complete the credit transfer application before embarking on the program. IRO does not apply for credit transfer on the students’ behalf.


What is the student accommodation?

The research program coordinator at Ulm University will support NUS students in securing housing, and arranging for insurance and visa if needed.

The student apartment is fully equipped, has a kitchenette, private bathroom and the Internet.
Apartments can be rented only on a monthly basis. Purchase of health insurance and liability is obligatory and can be purchased online before travel.

Is financial assistance available?

No financial support from Ulm University is available. Students can apply for the NASA Enhancement Awards through IRO.


How many placements are available?

4 vacancies or more


What are the eligibility requirements?

 
  • Any Faculty
  • Students in year 2 and 3
  • CAP of 3.0 or above
  • Students in graduate semester are not eligible.

 

Is a visa required?

Yes. Ulm University will assist in providing documentation needed to apply for a visa.

Students are to consult the Embassy of Germany in Singapore to determine if a visa is required and to apply for an entry visa if needed.
