International Research Attachment to INSA Lyon
What is this program about?
INSA Lyon is ranked among the top Universities of Science and Technology in Europe. Being the largest French Grand Ecole, INSA Lyon is known for research strength in Materials, Mechanics, Science and Information Technology, Energy and Environment, and Biology and Health.
INSA Lyon offers a vibrant international campus life with 20% of its students coming from overseas (76 nationalities). Lyon is a major European city combining a rich cultural life with a highly diversified industrial environment. Lyon is 2 hours away from Paris and from Alpes skiing resorts.
The INSA Lyon – NUS International Research Attachment Program gives undergraduate students the opportunity to carry out a 5 to 6-month research attachment in laboratories at INSA Lyon.

When does the program takes place and for how long?
The minimum length of an attachment at INSA Lyon is 20 weeks. Successful students will negotiate with the host research group the exact start and end date.
Where does it takes place?
Lyon is a city in east-central France in the Rhône-Alpes region, situated between Paris and Marseille. With daily TGV (high-speed train) services Lyon is 2 hours by train from Paris and 1hr40 from Marseille.
What is the attachment content?
Engineering, Science and Computing students
Students have a choice of either conducting a research attachment alone or combine his/her research with course work
Academic credit MAY be available. Credit for the research attachment is strictly at the student’s discretion. Students interested in obtaining credit must work with their faculty for credit mapping. IRO does not apply for credit transfer on the students’ behalf.
Note:
1.5 ECTS credits are awarded per each full week of work by INSA Lyon, given on a separate transcript for the research attachment. Courses taken at INSA Lyon are granted ECTS and the number of credits will depend on the course chosen.
Students from SoC can map the research attachment to UROP CP 3208 for credit transfer. Students from other faculties consult their SEP coordinator to be advised of the modular code available for mapping (if any).
What is the student accommodation?
INSA Lyon will help secure on-campus housing for NUS students and students are responsible for their rent.

What are the eligibility requirements?

Final year students who are doing their final year project are eligible to apply provided that they will maintain full time student status during the attachment and that they receive Faculty approval.
Is a visa required?
INSA Lyon will assist in providing documentation needed to apply for a visa.
Students are to consult the Embassy of France in Singapore to determine if a visa is required and to apply for an entry visa if needed.

How do I apply?

Students are encouraged to submit their application 3 months prior to their intended start date.

If a student is interested in research topics outside the list of projects provided or in a research period for which a project list is unavailable, he/she might initiate contact with faculty members at INSA Lyon to obtain an invitation to come to INSA Lyon for a research attachment. While doing so the student must keep the officer-in-charge at IRO informed.
The student is to contact the officer-in-charge at IRO should he/she needs help in finding a host professor.
