USA: Summer Research Attachment with Brown University
What is this programme about?
Participate in a summer research experience at Brown University, one of the top Ivy League institutions in the US. With multi-disciplinary research opportunities on offer, students will have the wonderful opportunity to broaden their horizons during the NUS mid-year academic break. Selected students will be eligible to receive a scholarship under the Santander Undergraduate Research Exchange (SURE) Programme, sponsored by Banco Santander.
When does the programme take place?
May – August 2013
The attachment should last for a minimum of eight weeks. Preparatory work at home prior to departure might be required at the discretion of supervisors and will not count towards the 8 week requirement. IRO will inform students about the exact start/end dates after the students’ acceptance into the programme.

Brown University, Providence, Rhode Island, USA
Located in the beautiful and historic city of Providence in the state of Rhode Island, Brown University is the seventh-oldest college in the United States. Named by the 2010 Princeton Review as the #1 College in America for Happiest Students, Brown is frequently recognised for its global reach, many cultural events, numerous campus groups and activities, active community service programs, highly competitive athletics, and beautiful facilities located in a richly historic urban setting.
What is the research content?
Multi-disciplinary research opportunities across all faculties.
Academic credit MAY be available. Students interested in obtaining credit must work with their faculty for credit mapping. IRO does not apply for credit transfer on the students’ behalf.
What is the student accommodation?
Students will be housed in on-campus residence halls, arranged for by Brown University.

Scholarships – Santander Undergraduate Research Exchange (SURE) Programme
NUS and selected partner universities are collaborating on the NUS Santander Undergraduate Research Exchange (SURE) Programme, which provides selected young researchers participating in the NUS-Brown research exchange with an award of up to USD 2,000. This award has been made possible through the generous sponsorship of Banco Santander.
Students will be notified about the application procedures for the SURE Programme after their acceptance for the NUS-Brown summer research exchange.

Is financial assistance available?
Students who are not selected to receive the SURE Programme award are eligible to apply for the NASA Enhancement Bursary or Scholarship. For more information, visit this webpage:

Is a visa required?
Yes. Brown University will assist in providing documentation needed to apply for a US visa to participate in the programme. Students are to consult the United States Embassy in Singapore to determine the specifics of the visa application procedures.
