India and Southeast Asia – Internships with the Singapore International Foundation in India, Cambodia, Indonesia, Laos and Vietnam


What is this programme about?


Established in 1991, the Singapore International Foundation (SIF; www.sif.org.sg) is a non-profit organisation with the vision of “Making Friends for a Better World”. SIF believes in helping to uplift lives through sustainable development projects overseas with the help of a vibrant and committed volunteer community.  To date, SIF has sent more than 2,000 volunteers overseas to various countries in the region and beyond.

SIF is offering NUS students internship opportunities through the Singapore International Volunteers (SIV) Student Fellowship. Internship positions are multi-disciplinary and available in various countries in the region. These assignments are a great match for you if you like meeting new people and experiencing different cultures while helping to contribute to a better world.

What is the intern accommodation?

SIF will help to provide students with accommodation of a reasonable standard.


How much does it cost?

SIF will provide interns with accommodation and a monthly stipend. See table below for an estimate of other costs.

Is financial assistance available?

Interns will be provided with a stipend for the duration of the internship.

What are the eligibility requirements?

 
  • Students from any faculty who have completed at least one year of study at NUS prior to participating in this programme.
  • Students should not be in their graduating semester prior to participating in this programme.
  • Prior Youth Expedition Project (YEP) experience and internship/work experience is preferable.
  • Strong interest in community development work is preferable.
  • Specific requirements for each internship site are:
   
  • India – Comfortable working with children. Suitable for FASS students (e.g. Social Work, Psychology, Human Geography).
  • Cambodia – Suitable for majors in Communications & New Media and Digital Media.
  • Indonesia – Ability to speak Bahasa Indonesia will be advantageous. Suitable for majors in Marketing and Communications.
  • Laos – Suitable for majors in SE Asian Studies, Political Science, Geography, Economics.
  • Vietnam – Suitable for majors in Marketing, Business Administration.

 

Is a visa required?

Yes. SIF and its partner organisations will provide the necessary advice for obtaining a visa, as well as for in-country visa extensions (if necessary) after arrival in the host country.

Students are responsible for ensuring that they have proper entry documents for all countries they plan to visit as part of this programme!
