What is this programme about?

Next Step Connections (NSC) offers professional internships and other learning abroad educational programs in Asia for college students and young professionals since 2008. They organize tailor-made internships in the best companies in Asia.

What is the academic/intern content?

Next Step Connections will provide you with a professional internship placement in Shanghai or Hong Kong. They have built up strong corporate connections and exclusive partnerships with leading companies across a wide range of internship industries enabling our participants to access the best international internships in Asia.

As an example, they have organized finance internships at Standard Chartered, fashion internships at Li&Fung, Business Internships at Chai Tai, Architecture internships at Tesco, Marketing internships at JC Decaux, Event Planning internships at Accor Group, Accounting internships at AXA Minmetals, legal internships at Sheppard Mullin LLC, Journalism internships at CNN and also at SME's with successful entrepreneurs.


What does it include?

 
  • Guaranteed tailor made professional internship available in Business, Finance, Entrepreneurship, Engineering, Architecture, Environment, Law, Journalism, Marketing and more.
  • Housing and all utilities included (Conditions may differ greatly based on housing option).
  • Comprehensive travel and medical insurance e. Next Step Connections works with a leading insurance provider offering unlimited medical expenses for injury, acute illness, and accident
  • Escorted transfers to and from the airport upon arrival and departure. NSC team member will be waiting for you at the airport upon arrival in Shanghai/Hong Kong. After warmly welcoming you, you will be escorted to your housing.
  • Assistance with visa application, residence registration upon arrival and visa extension if needed. All requested documents will be sent to you by NSC at least several weeks before your arrival so that you are able to obtain your F-Business visa in your country of residence prior to arrival.
  • Introduction to your company supervisor during your first day of work. You will be escorted from your housing to your work place on the first internship day to o have a smooth introduction between you and your company supervisor.
  • International Phone Card (~RMB100 credit) + Prepaid SIM Card (~RMB50 credit). You will be able to use the NSC international phone card to call home, and immediately make use of your cell phone with their prepaid SIM card.
  • Transportation Card (~RMB320 credit). A pre-paid transportation card which can be used in taxis, buses, and metros will also be handed to you at that time.
  • Approximately 2 Fun social, cultural, and professional events organized by NSC.
  • Office-hours support from NSC staff for non-life threatening issues and 24/7 support for life-threatening emergencies.

 

What is the student accommodation?

Students have the choice of the following accommodation options:

 
  • International standard single room
  • Single student dormitory or local apartment room
  • Double (shared) student dormitory or local apartment room


Programme fee will differ based on choice of housing.

Is financial assistance available?

Yes. Students can apply for the NASA Enhancement Bursary* (by Financial Need) or NASA Enhancement Scholarship (by Merit). More information here.

Singaporean Students applying for the Shanghai Programme can apply for the NUS Internship Award for China too, but only 1 form of financial aid (either NASA or NUS Internship Award) will be awarded.

What are the eligibility requirements?

  • Minimum CAP score of 3.0
  • Strong interest in a specific field (Finance, advertising, marketing, business development, journalism, architecture etc).
  • Relevant past experiences (both academic and professional) in specific field of choice.
  • Fluency in Mandarin (for the Shanghai programme) or/and Cantonese (for the Hong Kong programme) is highly preferred. This is especially so for the competitive finance sector.
  • Students should not be in their graduating semester prior to participating in this programme.


Is a visa required?

Yes. NSC will assist you with the visa application and provide the documents required for you to obtain the F-Business visa prior to arrival.

How do I apply?

Step 1:

Students complete and submit IRO Programme Application Form via email to go-iro@nus.edu.sg  together with:

 
  • Unofficial transcript
  • Resume


Step 2:

Proceed to the NSC website and complete the application:

 
  • Completed NSC online application
  • Resume
  • Picture
  • US$450 program deposit
