What is this programme about?

Global Career Launch is a unique opportunity for university students to immerse themselves in the culture and customs of the United States, and acquire the real-world skills and experience that enhance their career prospects. Students enjoy first-hand all that the American experience has to offer, while preparing themselves for professional careers through eight week internships that can be tailored to meet individual skill sets and interests.

This programme is provided by Cultural Vistas, a non-profit organisation committed to enrich minds, advance global skills, build careers, and connect lives through international exchange.


When does the programme take place?

Chicago – 7 June to 3 August 2013
Seattle – 21 June to 17 August 2013
Washington D.C. – 14 June to 10 August 2013

What is the internship content?

Internship positions are multi-disciplinary. Internship placements are available in the following fields/industries:

 
  • Tech companies and start-ups
  • Law firms
  • Universities
  • Non-profit organisations
  • Government agencies


Academic credit MAY be available. Students must consult their faculties about the procedures and requirements for credit mapping at least 3 months before embarking on the internships. Academic credit is at the sole discretion of the faculty. IRO does not apply for credit transfer on the behalf of participants.


What does the programme fee include?

 
  • Eight-week unpaid summer internship in the city and field/industry of your choice.
  • Support from dedicated in-city staff and Cultural Vistas’ 24-hour emergency hotline.
  • J-1 US visa paperwork.
  • Medical insurance.
  • Welcome orientation seminar and group dinner upon arrival.
  • Cultural activities, sightseeing events, and free weekends.
  • Public transportation passes for the duration of the program.
  • Recommendation letter from Cultural Vistas.
  • Closing ceremony and certificate presentation.
  • Airport pickup.

 

What is the student accommodation?

Students will be housed in shared accommodation in the various internship cities.


How much does it cost?

Students who pay the non-refundable programme deposit by 18 January 2013 will be eligible for an early-bird discount of USD 100 off the total programme fee.

Is financial assistance available?

Number of placements available?

There is no pre-determined limit on the number of placements available to NUS students.


What are the eligibility requirements?

 
  • Undergraduates from any faculty who have completed at least one year of study at NUS prior to participation in this programme.
  • Should not be in their graduating semester prior to participation in this programme.
  • CAP of 3.0 and above.

 

Is a visa required?

Yes. Cultural Vistas will assist in providing documentation needed to apply for a US J-1 visa to participate in the programme. Students are to consult the United States Embassy in Singapore to determine the specifics of the visa application procedures.
