India: Internship Programme at Garodia International Centre for Learning


What is this programme about?

Garodia International Centre for Learning (GICL) was founded in 1969 by Parmeshwari Devi Gordhandas Garodia in Ghatkopar, Mumbai. It started with 7 students and the student population has since grown to more than 2000, in the name of P.G.Garodia School (ICSE).

GICL has been awarded International Centre status by the University of Cambridge International Examinations, and is affiliated to the International Baccalaureate Organization. GICL is part of the Garodia Group, which owns and manages a range of institutions across India and abroad, including One World International School in Singapore.

The GICL – NUS Internship Programme in Mumbai, India provides interns with an opportunity to design curriculum and teach in an international school.


When does the programme take place?

June to July semester break for 6 weeks.

Mumbai, India.


What is the internship content?

Interns will be teaching in an international school in various subjects. Interns will also be involved in curriculum design.

Academic credit MAY be available. Students interested in obtaining credit must consult their faculties about the procedures and requirements for credit mapping before embarking on the internships. Academic credit is at the sole discretion of the faculty. IRO does not apply for credit transfer on the behalf of students.


What is the student accommodation?

Students will be housed in twin-sharing apartment in Ghatkopar East, a suburban middle-class neighbourhood in east Mumbai.


How much does the programme cost?

There is no programme fee involved. However, interns need to pay for their own living expenses. GICL will provide accommodation for interns.

Is financial assistance available?

GICL will provide accommodation for participants.

Is a visa required?

Yes. NUS and GICL will assist in providing documentation needed to apply for a visa. Students are to consult the High Commission of India in Singapore to determine the specifics of the visa application procedures.

What are the eligibility requirements?

 
  • Student must have an interest in teaching and in India
  • Student must be mature in their outlook and have a positive work attitude
  • Student must have a good command of English
  • Students with previous teaching experience are preferred
  • Undergraduates from any faculty, in particular Arts and Social Sciences majoring in history
  • Students must NOT be in their graduating semester
