Cross-Cultural Internship Program 2013 - New York City, USA


What is this programme about?

The Cross Cultural Internship Program (CCIP) is a 7 week programme designed to meet the growing demand for comprehensive internship experiences that incorporate both professional skills and cross-cultural knowledge. The programme emphasises East-West cultural exchange and is aimed at students who demonstrate a global mindset. It is also for those who demand both a hands-on and cross-cultural experience by providing participants a new glimpse of another culture's approaches to business challenges, and it helps participants build an internationalised portfolio, and strike a balance between hard and soft skills.

CCIP is a non-profit internship programme organised by FUSIA Communications, a marketing and communication company, to promote its mission of facilitating East-West cultural exchange.


When does the programme take place?

 
  • Session A – 25 May to 13 July 2013
  • Session B – 13 July to 31 August 2013


NUS students who wish to participate in Session B MUST seek faculty approval for Leave-of-Absence before applying.

What is the internship content?

Internship positions are multi-disciplinary, with an emphasis on East-West cultural exchange. Internship placements are offered by participating host organisations in the following fields / industries:

 
  • Government, Non-Profit and Social Services
  • Law Firms
  • Engineering, Architecture and Real Estate
  • Communications, Design and Fashion
  • Accounting, Brokerages, Consultancies and Finance
  • Transport and Logistics


Academic credit MAY be available. Students must consult their faculties about the procedures and requirements for credit mapping at least 3 months before embarking on the internships. Academic credit is at the sole discretion of the faculty. IRO does not apply for credit transfer on the behalf of participants.

What is the student accommodation?

Students will be accommodated in single, twin or triple-sharing rooms at the YMCA in the Flushing district of New York.

Is financial assistance available?

Number of placements available?

There is no pre-determined limit on the number of placements available to NUS students.


What are the eligibility requirements?

 
  • Undergraduates from any faculty who have completed at least one year of study at NUS prior to participation in this programme.
  • Should not be in their graduating semester prior to participation in this programme.
  • CAP of 3.0 and above.

 

Is a visa required?

Yes. CCIP will assist in providing documentation needed to apply for a US J-1 visa to participate in the programme. Students are to consult the United States Embassy in Singapore to determine the specifics of the visa application procedures.

How do I apply?

The application deadline is Monday, 14 January 2013, 6pm.  All applicants MUST attend an information session at the NUS Central Library Theatrette 1 on Wednesday, 16 January 2013, 10am.  Interviews will be held immediately after the information session.

  • Register for the information session and an interview timeslot at NUS on 16 January 2013.
  • Applicants who fail to attend the information session and interview at NUS will not be considered for the programme.
