Programme Dates: 10-24 March 2009 (in Singapore) & 12-26 May 2009 (in China)
The Sino-Singapore Undergraduate Exchange Programme is a prestigious programme spearheaded by the respective Ministry of Education (MOE) of Singapore and China. It aims to instill Singaporean students with a global perspective and understanding on China and its potential, and to expose the Chinese students to life and education in Singapore.
The programme comprises of two parts: 15-day Singapore Programme (hosted by Singapore MOE and the 3 local universities respectively) and another 15-day China Programme (hosted by MOE P.R.C and the 4 participating Chinese Universities).
The programme includes visits to the participating universities, networking sessions with the local students (through games, team work etc.), cultural exchange, excursion trips and visit to government organisations and private companies. There will be a total of 100 participants, 50 each from both countries.
Recruitment and Selection:
We are looking for 20 outstanding undergraduates who will serve as ambassadors for NUS in the programme. You are welcome to apply if you fulfill the following criteria:
- Singapore citizen or permanent resident
- Aged 25 or below
- Preferably in Year 2 or 3
- Articulate, confident, open-minded, and eager to learn and share knowledge
- With interest in current affairs in China
- Able to FULLY COMMIT to the programme
- Students with special talents, e.g. singing/playing musical instruments, drama, photography, IT, etc. are preferred
(Non-Chinese and non-Mandarin speaking students are welcomed to apply. But do note that most of the talks, seminars and dialogue sessions during the China leg of the programme will be conducted in Mandarin.)
Fees: Each participant is only required to pay a part of the airfare to China which would not exceed S$450. Accommodation and most meals will be arranged. NUS students are not required to pay for the Singapore Programme.
Application: Please fill up the application form (attach with CV and past examination results) and email to Ms Zann Lum (irolym@nus.edu.sg) from the International Relations Office (IRO). All forms should reach IRO by 12pm on 16 January 2009.
Selected applicants will be called for an interview.
Deliverables: All NUS participants are required to contribute in the creation of a blog site for the 6th Sino-Singapore Undergraduate Exchange Programme, reflecting your experiences and unique encounters, learning points and photos.
