NUS – EUSA Internship Programme

About EUSA:

EUSA is an international, non-profit study abroad organization that places nearly 2,000 students in comprehensive academic internship programs each year, spanning North America and Europe, and across a broad spectrum of industries. EUSA endeavors to find the right match between students and host companies, offering advice (outside of internship work hours) on professional practice and cultural immersion etc.  In working with NUS, EUSA provides internship placements in both Boston and New York City (NYC) in the USA.

Internship programs available:

For Summer 2010, the internship program takes places from May 23 to July 31, 2010 (10 weeks). There are two internship programs available, which are the NYC Program and the Boston Program.
Program Components:

  • 9.5 week internship ( Monday – Friday)
  • Orientation and cultural activities program
  • Professional development components
  • Housing
  • Full-time on-site support and emergency assistance
  • J-1 Visa Services


NYC Program

From Carnegie Hall to Covenant House, from Macy’s to Marvel, from L’OCCITANE en Provence to The Legal Aid Society of New York, New York City boasts opportunities in a wide variety of industry sectors. A leading global city, New York exerts a powerful influence over worldwide commerce, finance, culture, fashion and entertainment.

Boston Program

Greater Boston, as an intellectual hub of higher education and entrepreneurship, provides an ideal location for a challenging and rewarding internship. Boston boasts opportunities in strong industry sectors such as finance, high-tech, healthcare and education. Students are placed with small, innovative start-ups, as well as established organizations, ranging from Fidelity Investments to Reebok. In addition, the greater Boston area offers a rich backdrop of American history and is steeped in culture, diversity and old-world charm.

Internship Placement Process:

  • Acceptance / selection by NUS
  • EUSA online questionnaire
  • Individual placement meeting via phone with a member of the EUSA internship team
  • Provisional placement via email: a placement description, host companies’ website and previous student evaluations
  • Phone interview with direct supervisor at placement site (6 – 8 weeks prior to program start date)

During and after the internship

  • Mid-term review
  • Supervisor and student evaluation


Housing:

In both Boston and NYC, space is limited and thus students are advised not to over pack. A housing email will be sent out to all interns before the program begins with further information. Students are to take note that distances to internships may vary.

  • Centrally Located Student Residences
    • Furnished dorms and flats/apartments
    • Kitchen

    • Common areas
  • Housing in neighborhoods such as Greenwich Village, Union Square, Gramercy Park or Soho

Boston


  • Furnished student and young professional residences with shared kitchens and common areas
  • Convenient to city center in neighborhoods such as Cambridge, South End, or Kendall Square

Funding/ financial aid will be available through IRO for potential interns to cover their airfare as well as settling allowance (up to a maximum of SGD 2000).
