The Carter Center is a non-profit and a non-governmental organization that is supported by donations from individuals, foundations, corporation and countries. In partnership with Emory University, the Carter Center is committed to advancing human rights and alleviating unnecessary human suffering. It collaborates with other organizations in carrying out its mission. The Carter Center seeks to produce not only a dedicated and well-informed worker, but also a person who promotes human welfare and social reform.
Internship programs available:
The Carter Center has been listed as one of the top internship programs in the US. It has an extensive selection of programs with different focuses. Students will have the opportunity to intern in the following areas: Americas Program, Democracy Program, Conflict Resolution Program, Human Rights Program, China Program, Education Program, Global 2000, Development, Art Services, Finance, Research, Special Events, Public Information or the Mental Health Program.

Application Procedures:
The duration of the FALL and SPRING term is 15 weeks. Students may also apply for the Summer 2009 term (mid-May – August). The summer term is slightly more flexible, requiring a 10 week commitment. The deadlines are:
FALL (late August – early December): 15th June
SPRING (mid January – early May): 15th October
SUMMER (mid May – mid August): 1st March

Visas:
The Carter Center will work through the International Student Services Program Office Emory University (an existing NUS Partner University) to acquire an internship visa for students.
Financial matters/ approximation of costs:
The Carter Center is unable to provide stipends for interns.

Financial Aid ( need-based) from the Carter Center:
After students have been successfully accepted into the Programme, they will be eligible to apply for need-based financial aid from the Carter Center. They will need to complete a financial aid request form as well as provide supporting documents (bank statement etc.)
Funding Opportunity From IRO:
To be eligible for funding from IRO, you have to be accepted by The Carter Center as an intern. Do contact us directly for more information.
Credits:
The decision on whether to grant students with credits for their participation in this programme will be at the discretion of the respective faculties.
